about

3. Boat’s Up the River :: Roscoe Holcomb (Daisy KY). Haunting. Spiritual. A voice that will never leave you and a banjo that will always make you want to be on a porch with him. During Chance’s bought with fighting off deer from his garden by blasting eerie music from his barn, the one song that stuck in Chance’s mind was this one from Roscoe, and has continued to stick with us beyond the dirt and veggies and deer.

lyrics

Oh, I’ll go down to the river
Bring my rockin’ chair
If the blues overtake me
I’ll rock away from there

‘Cause this boat’s up the river
But they won’t come down
I believe to my soul Lord I’m waterbound

If the river was whiskey
Lord and I was a duck
You know I’d dive to the bottom
And I’d never come up

‘Cause this boat’s up the river
But they won’t come down
I believe to my soul Lord I’m waterbound

Oh, I’ll go down to the river
And I’ll sit right down
If the blues overtake me
Jump in that river and drown

‘Cause this boat’s up the river
But they won’t come down
I believe to my soul, Lord I’m waterbound
I believe to my soul, Lord I’m waterbound
I believe to my soul, Lord I’m waterbound
